PTBi East Africa

Location

The Preterm Birth Initiative (PTBi), a partnership between Lynne and Marc Benioff, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), offers a unique opportunity to apply scientific, clinical, and community expertise to address the growing problem of prematurity.

The PTBi East Africa program’s theory of change is based on the belief that attention to measurement and quality improvement processes can transform the quality of care delivered to women and their babies resulting in decreased incidence and improved outcomes for preterm infants.

PTBi-EA currently works in 17 county and sub-county hospitals in Migori County, Kenya; 6 regional and district hospitals in the Busoga region, Uganda; and 36 health centers across 5 districts in Rwanda. This research PTBi East Africa has expanded its research footprint, and more importantly its research impact, through its investments in locally-led implementation and discovery research and capacity building programs.
